Clerical Officer competitions can be highly competitive. However, effective preparation can give you the edge over your competition. Remember, most of your competition won’t know how to ACE competency-based interviews. Therefore, a little know-how can give you the edge

My advice – KEEP IT SIMPLE

SIMPLE structure – I favour SAR (Situation, Actions, Results)

You MUST maintain focus – Understand what the competencies mean, essentially what the panel is listening for. This will keep you focused throughout, preventing waffle or going off on a tangent

Have a back-up example for each competency

NB: Competency based interviews can be very formal. Don’t be put off if the panel isn’t friendly or engaging

“Paul, just a quick email to say thanks for the great interview coaching session we had on zoom 4 weeks ago. I did my interview and I’m very happy with how I performed. I did my best, that’s all I wanted to do, not let myself down. I enjoyed the interview in a strange way, think that’s because I could understand and answer the questions effortlessly. That’s definitely down to you guidance and way you coached me!”
